Beer “Furst Chlodwig” is named after the king of the Franks, Clovis I, descended from the Merovingian family. The monarch became famous as the founder of the Frankish state, which covered modern Dutch, Belgian and Dutch territories.
One of his most important victories was the battle with the Roman governor of Paris, Syagrius. Clovis I not only erected a new, powerful state on the ruins of the Roman Empire, but also became the baptizer of the Frankish tribes. The transition to Christianity opened up new prospects for the ruler, and he expanded his kingdom into the lands of modern France, making Paris the capital of the new empire. Clovis I left behind a collection of the first Frankish laws; it was he who convened the first Orleans Church Council, where he received the title “Son of the Church”.
